Niagara Falls Nature Club
Wednesday Evening Walk

The Niagara Falls Nature Club welcomes you to participate in leisurely walks. Anyone may join the walks and enjoy the flora and fauna. The walks are rated from 1 to 10; 1 is easy and 10 is strenuous. All walks will start at 7:00 p.m. except Queenston potluck. In the event of rain the walk may be cancelled. For more information call the person listed under the walk description.

Note:Due to the risk of contacting mosquitoes with the West Nile Virus one should wear clothes that cover your arms and legs and use insect repellant on any exposed areas. This may help you!

WOODEND CONS. AREA (6)
A pleasant stroll through the trees and some fine views from the cliffs make for an enjoyable evening. Meet outside the gate on the lane off Beechwood Rd..

ST. JOHN’S CONS. AREA (6)
There are many different flowers, shrubs, ferns and trees to be seen in this area. Meet at the parking lot. To get there go north on Pelham St. from Fonthill.

Come and explore the woods and ponds in this beautiful area. There are many birds to be seen here and there should be a few creatures in the ponds. Meet at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Hwy.20 Fonthill

BRADSHAW MEMORIAL PARK (2)
This will be a pleasant walk in a new park where we should find many wild flowers and also some interesting birds. Meet at the parking lot. To get there go to the corner of Pelham St. and Chantler Rd. in Welland then go west on Chantler 3.1 km

LOUTH CONS. AREA (9)
This walk along the escarpment is rough but probably has the most varied flora of all our walks. Meet at Rockway Community Ctr. on Pelham Rd.

POTLUCK SUPPER at the picnic area at Queenston Heights followed by a walk in the woods. Bring your plate, cup and utensils.

Here in “Paula’s ponds” we will find many marsh birds and their young. Also marsh plants and insects. Meet at the South-east corner of the parking lot near the greenhouse.

This is a pleasant wood lot and we will see many types of trees, shrubs and flowers. Meet in the parking lot Burleigh Rd.and Dominion Rd. in Ridgeway.

This walk should prove to have interesting birds and flowers and it should be a nice walk. Meet at the DeCew house on DeCew Rd.

Come and explore the bog and see all the unique plants and trees. Meet at parking lot on Erie Peat Rd. in Port Colborne. .

SHORTHILLS PROV. PARK
ROLAND RD. ENTRANCE (4)
On this walk we will go to see Swayze Falls and walk along the creek. Take the Merrittville Hwy. then go west on to Holland Rd. Follow it until it turns into Roland Rd. then up the hill to the parking lot.

PARADISE GROVE (2)
This walk will be a pleasant stroll through the old growth oaks at this site. Meet in Niagara-on-the-Lake, just east of the Niagara Parkway in the parking lot on John St.

SHORTHILLS WILEY RD. ENTRANCE (3)
Take a relaxing walk along an old farm road with fields on each side. Many butterflies have been seen along this lane. To get there go west on DeCew Rd. and turn left onto Cataract Rd. then right onto Wiley Rd. to the parking lot.

Come and see the many wild flowers and grasses planted by “The Friends of Malcolmson”. Meet at the north end of Niagara St. at Lakeshore Rd. St.Catharines in the parking lot.

A chance to check out the wildflowers and trees planted by Club members, and much more. Entrance to the park is off Montrose Rd. just south of the tracks.

This is a walk that should be enjoyable and is short enough for our 2 nd. last walk. Turn right just west of the light at Pelham St. in Fonthill to get to the parking lot.

DUFFERIN ISLAND (2)
Come and explore the varied plant and bird life on the island. Many surprises are to be found here both in the plants and birds. Meet at the first parking lot by the bridge.
