Niagara Falls Nature Club
Wednesday Evening Walk

The Niagara Falls Nature Club welcomes you to participate in leisurely walks. Anyone may join the walks and enjoy the flora and fauna. The walks are rated from 1 to 10; 1 is easy and 10 is strenuous. All walks will start at 7:00 p.m. except Queenston potluck. In the event of rain the walk may be cancelled. For more information call the person listed under the walk description.

Note:Due to the risk of contacting mosquitoes with the West Nile Virus one should wear clothes that cover your arms and legs and use insect repellant on any exposed areas


APRIL 30
WOODEND CONS. AREA (6)
A pleasant stroll through the trees and some fine views from the cliffs make for an enjoyable evening. Meet outside the gate on the lane off Beechwood Rd..

MARCY WOODS (3)
Come and enjoy all the spring flowers which abound here. We should also see many birds. Meet at the parking lot at the end of Holloway Bay Road.

There are many different flowers, shrubs, ferns and trees to be seen in this area. Meet at the parking lot. To get there go north on Pelham St. from Fonthill.

This wooded area will have many spring flowers, interesting trees, and amphibians. The Heartland Forest is on the west side of Kalar Rd. between Brown Rd. and Chippewa Creek Rd. in Niagara Falls.

Here in “Paula’s ponds” we will find many marsh birds and their young. Also marsh plants and insects. Meet at the South-east corner of the parking lot near the greenhouse.

This walk along the escarpment is rough but probably has the most varied flora of all our walks. Meet at Rockway Community Ctr. on Pelham Rd.

SHAGBARK TRAIL (2)
This is a pleasant wood lot and we will see many types of trees, shrubs and flowers. Meet in the parking lot Burleigh Rd.and Dominion Rd. in Ridgeway.

Come and explore the woods and ponds in this beautiful area. There are many birds to be seen here and there should be a few creatures in the ponds. Meet at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Hwy.20 Fonthill

SHORTHILLS PROV. PARK
ROLAND RD. ENTRANCE (4)
On this walk we will go to see if any water is going over Swayze Falls and walk along the creek. Take the Merrittville Hwy. then go west on to Holland Rd. Follow it until it turns into Roland Rd. then up the hill to the parking lot.

QUEENSTON CAVE AND KILNS
There are historical points of interest as well as flowers and trees on this walk. Meet in the first parking lot off Portage Rd., east of Stanley.

This walk along the escarpment has a variety of flowers and birds. We should find some walking ferns also. Meet at Rockway Community Center on Pelham Rd.

This Hamilton Field Naturalists’ property has mature trees, ferns and wild flowers. Drive North of Fonthill on Effingham St. to Metler Rd., then left to Center Sreet.

BADEN-POWELL PARK (2)
A chance to check out the wildflowers and trees planted by Club members, and much more. Entrance to the park is off Montrose Rd. just south of the tracks.

DUFFERIN ISLAND (2)
Come and explore the varied plant and bird life on the island. Many surprises are to be found here both in the plants and birds. Meet at the first parking lot by the bridge.
